Tips to Get Rid of Bad Breath
When it comes to bad breath, it can be just as annoying and gross for the person with the bad breath as it is for the people who interact with them. Sometimes it can seem like it is impossible to get rid of it, depending on what the cause is.
How to get rid of bad breath
Today we will look at some different habits someone can change during their everyday routine to help keep their breath smelling fresh and improve the interactions that they have with people during their day-to-day lives.
Brushing and flossing is very beneficial
When it comes to someone eradicating their bad breath, brushing and flossing is an important factor. Of course, it should be a part of everyone’s daily oral health routine, but spending a bit of extra time on these tasks can help.
By brushing and flossing twice a day, the food particles that can be left behind and cause an increased chance of harboring bacteria that cause bad breath will be eliminated. It should be remembered to not be too forceful or over-brush the teeth. Doing this can cause gums to bleed and have adverse effects on other parts of the mouth.
Scraping the tongue can help
If someone wants to take an extra step to end their bad breath, scraping the tongue can be helpful, too! Doing this will remove most of the remaining bacteria that are causing bad breath.
Many toothbrushes have a tongue scraper included on the back side of the toothbrush. However, a tongue scraper can typically be bought at any store that sells toothbrushes. They are very affordable, and most people that do this for the first time find that it helps their mouth feel extra clean for the day! Their breath is also greatly improved.
Rinsing the mouth out and using mouthwash freshens breath
Another helpful thing to do to get rid of bad breath is for someone to rinse out their mouth after meals. Although it does not have to be done using mouthwash, having the added benefit of the cleansing and healing properties included in mouthwash is very useful. It also leaves someone with fresh, minty smelling breath.
Avoid foods that are already smelly
For someone that is already prone to battling bad breath, avoiding foods that are known to cause bad breath is a smart move. These foods include things like onions, garlic and dairy, to name just a few. Although most people find that having a glass of water after meals that include these ingredients is enough, it can be more difficult to get rid of the bad breath these foods cause for someone already battling it.
Avoiding foods with these ingredients is a great strategy, and being mindful of this will greatly help someone keep fresh smelling breath throughout the day when they may not be able to get to a place to brush and floss their teeth or use mouthwash.
Don’t have that after-dinner mint!
Although the 20 to 30 minutes after having an after-dinner mint may be pleasant, the sugar that is included in these mints is a breeding ground for bacteria that cause bad breath. Instead, it is suggested that someone opt for gum since it is longer lasting than a mint and someone will be less likely to have bad breath an hour or so after it has fully dissolved.
